Do Platonic Friendships Exist Between Ex-Lovers Literature Review Examples
Introduction Love resembles a vortex that charms us to its depth. People fall in love and none is forced to do so. Different people have different life experiences that they can testify to one another. The experiences can either be painful or sweet in memories. The truth is that once you are in love with a person and you happen to break up, the affection will remain in your heart for sometime ready to be replenished at any moment. Once the pain is gone you may find yourself feeling like you need to get back as friends and it is not surprising to find that the other person shares with you similar feelings. Can we be still friends? Resources and Barriers to friendship quality after romantic relationship dissolution Influence of Resources Resources have an influence on the friendship quality between former dating partners. According to a research conducted on some college students, it was realized that those who received more resources had higher levels of friendship quality with their former partners. Some barriers to friend quality include: lack of family or friendsââ¬â¢ support, involvement in a new romantic relationship and using neglect as a disengagement strategy. The role of resources which are received from a former romantic partner and the barriers are the predictors of friendship quality after dissolution of a romantic relationship. Social Exchange theory A theory called social exchange theory has been put in place to examine how a former relationship can be handled or how it can have the effects on someoneââ¬â¢s life. This framework is built on a combination of behaviorism and elementary economics. This theory investigates whether resources and barriers influence the quality of friendship with a former romantic partner. The investigation carried, helped us understand that the barriers and resources plays a very big role in determining the fate of a former relationship. The following hypotheses were developed using the principles from the social exchange framework. Hypothesis 1: The frequency of resources received will be positively related to friendship quality in post-dating relationships. Hypothesis 2: satisfaction with the frequency of resources received will moderate the association between frequency of resources received and friendship quality in post-dating relationships. Hypothesis 3: The presence of barriers will be negatively related to friendship quality in post-dating relationships. Critique Hypothesis Hypothesis 1and 2 were positive hypotheses. It was supported as there was a direct relationship between the frequencies of resources received and the quality of post-dating relationships. The quality improved with an increase in the resources received. In as much the frequency of resources received did not work for some post-dating relationships, for a majority it worked. The third hypothesis examined the effect of barriers. It was realized that barriers impacted negatively on the quality of post-dating relationships. Participants Gender insensitive: The participants who were involved in the research, had 71% women and 29% males. This did not give a good finding bearing in mind that both genders play a very important role in examining and determining the fate of a post-dating relationships. Type of relationship (misrepresentation). The research left out those individuals who had children with their former partners and those who had taken too long after the dissolution of their relationships. This misrepresented the sample space. The groups above needed to be considered so as to determine the long-term effect of a former relationship and whether children had any impact towards rekindling a former relationship. The Social Embeddedness of Redefining Romantic Couplings Symbolic Interaction Symbolic interaction theory examines the contours of post-dating relationships. Some of the questions that one can ask himself/herself during this study include: How do people orient themselves to one another after a dating relationship ends What is the power of dynamic between oneââ¬â¢s social network and his/her postdating relationship The relationships between former spouses or lovers may satisfy legitimate needs such as friendship, shared history and extended social networks. (Metts, Cupach and Bejlovec, 1989) People may act towards things on the basis of the meanings that things have for them. Another meaning may arise out of a social interaction and the meaning may be handled in and modified through an interpretative process. The interactions that may exist between former lovers depend on the nature of the relationship and the type of social interactions that they had with each other. The meanings may change and expand throughout the course of a relationship. Cross-sex friendship with a romantic history A research carried out by Bell in 1981 came out with findings that over 50% of former lovers were friends. It is hard for men and women to be in platonic relationship. The matter is even worsened when they were once in a relationship. This is because there are always some attractions that exist between people of the opposite sex. There is usually a natural human instinct that drives people of the opposite sex together.

The Vindication of Oedipus Rex In the midst of a rife plague, Athens held their annual Dionysia festival. The festival was comprised of a collocation of dramatic performances honoring the Greek god Dionysus. During the festival in 429 BC a local playwright named Sophocles entered the festivities with his presentation of the tragedy Oedipus Rex. Oedipus the King by Sophocles introduces a city, much like Athens, that is being threatened by a troublesome plague, much like Athens, and whose people are in search for the cause epidemic. After further investigation, it is divulged that their king, Oedipus, is the one who is to blame for the plague. Based on the plot of the play, it is Oedipus fault that Thebes has come down with a sickness. However, when considering the social context of the play and of its audience, it becomes difficult to assign blame to Oedipus beyond a shadow of a doubt. This essay will discuss the evidence brought up against Oedipus in determining his guilt along with reasons why it is near impossib le to fault him within the context of the period. Then this essay will conclude with an interpretation of why the question of blame is irrational, but imperative for any city under a faceless threat. The husband may dispose of conjugal property without the wifeââ¬â¢s consent if such sale is necessary to answer for conjugal liabilities mentioned in Article 161 and 162 of the Civil Code. In Tinitigan vs. Tinitigan, the Court ruled that the husband may sell property belonging to the conjugal partnership even without the consent of the wife if the sale is necessary to answer for a big conjugal liability which might endanger the familyââ¬â¢s economic standing. This is the instance where the wifeââ¬â¢s consent is not requires and, impliedly, no judicial intervention necessary. In the instant case, the contract of sale is valid from the moment the defendant said YES to the plaintiff in April 2009. Defendant immediately agrees on buying the condo unit for Two Million Pesos upon offer, thus the contract of sale is valid, perfected and binding. II. The parties were capable of giving consent to the contract specifically the plaintiff, thus: Article 1390. The following contracts are voidable or annullable, even though there may have been no damage to the contracting parties; (1)Those where one of the parties is incapable of giving consent to a contract; (2)Those where the consent is vitiated by mistake, violence, intimidation, undue influence or fraud. In the instant case, plaintiff was capable of giving consent to the contract and her consent was not vitiated by mistake. Article 1319. Consent is manifested by the meeting of the offer and the acceptance upon the thing and the cause which are to constitute the contract. The offer must be certain and the acceptance absolute. A qualified acceptance constitutes a counter-offer. Acceptance made by letter or telegram does not bind the offerer except from the time it came to his knowledge. The contract in such case is presumed to have been entered into in the place where the offer was made. Article 124 of the Family Code. The administration and enjoyment of the conjugal partnership shall belong to both spouses jointly. In case of disagreement, the husbandââ¬â¢s decision shall prevail, subject to recourse to the court by the wife for proper remedy, which must be availed of within five years from the date of the contract implementing such decision. In the event that one spouse is incapacitated or otherwise unable to participate in the administration of the conjugal properties, the other spouse may assume sole powers of administration. These powers do not include disposition or encumbrance without authority of the court or the written consent of the other spouse. In the absence of such authority or consent, the disposition or encumbrance shall be void. However, the transaction shall be construed as a continuing offer on the part of the consenting spouse and the third person, and may be perfected as a binding contract upon the acceptance by the other spouse or authorization by the court before the offer is withdrawn by either or both offerors. As abovementioned, plaintiff consented to the sale upon offering the condo unit to the defendant in April 2009 which was immediately accepted. Moreover, plaintiff only signified her change of mind to sell said property in September 2009. Whereas, the other spouse (Raul Geronimo) already signed, signifying consent to the sale, the Deed of Sale in June 2009 upon acceptance of the payment in the amount of Two Million Pesos. Thus, the contract of sale was already valid, perfected and binding when the plaintiff changed her mind. THEREFORE, the contract of sale between the parties is valid, perfected, binding and not voidable. In view of the foregoing, the defendant prays for the suit for annulment of contract filed by plaintiff be dismissed for lack of merit. Defendant prays for other reliefs that may be just and proper under law and equity.
